Our nation is currently undergoing what I’d like to call an expansion period. Many old paradigms are in the process of crumbling. Certain ways we’ve done things for centuries are proving to be outdated and no longer relevant. As we turn to leaders or even media for guidance, support, or simply information, we’re seeing that there are many conflicting reports, and we also see that the powers that be don’t seem to be all that interested in our overall well-being.
All of this is showing us that perhaps the time for looking outside of ourselves for answers has ended or at least is coming to an end.
Some of us can clearly see this. However, there are those out there who are 100% sold on what the authorities are telling them. They blindly follow the mandates being placed upon them, without question. They are engrossed in the mainstream narrative and have no interest in conducting their own research or using discernment to evaluate the validity of the data they’re consuming. Many have memorized the narrative, to the point that if an outsider tries to share their perspective, they shut them down immediately and revert to reciting the propaganda they’ve consumed from the talking heads in the media. From the outside looking in, it can feel as if these people are under some weird spell that keeps them in the cycle of deceit.
You may feel the urge to shake them from the spell they’re under, but you know how they say not to abruptly wake a sleepwalker, this same logic applies to these folks under this trance. If you spit too much game at them, they will lash out and react in a manner unbecoming.
So what do we do? How do we handle them? What if it’s a family member?
Listen, I’m no expert on familial relations or anything in that field. But one thing I know very well is how to manage my own energy. So it’s very clear to me that getting sucked into a conversation with someone whose views are on the opposite end of mine and is uninterested in having an open conversation about the differences, is a complete and utter waste of my energy.
Now I will say, it’s not a requirement for me that people I talk to agree with me. In fact, some of my favorite people share totally different stances from me on a number of topics. We have wonderful, respectful conversations. Each of us sharing our views, while also allowing the other person the dignity to represent their view without shaming them.
This type of exchange always feels good when you’re done and sometimes leaves you more enlightened and could even change your perspective on a topic.
However, on the opposite end, you’ll have people who are committed to misunderstanding you attempting to bait you into a conversation where both parties will be left feeling uninspired and mentally, physically, and emotionally drained.
These types of conversations are the ones I avoid at all costs. They aren’t doing anyone any good. And if you’re anything like me where you’ve worked very hard on yourself in order to restore a sense of inner peace, this type of exchange can make you feel like the work you’ve done that day, week or even month was for nothing because having that type of convo can seriously throw you out of alignment.
This is why I preach the importance of guarding and protecting your energy every chance I get. I know this concept gets thrown around casually in the new-age spiritual realm or even the business world, so I know it’s easy to dismiss it as another cool but generic social media trend or hashtag. But I think the reason we see it so often is because many of us who work on managing our energy daily know the huge impact this type of work can have on your life. And perhaps more importantly, we know that not doing this type of work leaves you vulnerable to spiritual attacks, energy vampires and can be detrimental to your overall well-being.
As I’m writing this we are going into Thanksgiving week in the year 2020. You know the year that has felt like 10 years rolled into 1?! Yep, that’s the year. So, we have that going for us.
On top of that, we’re now going into the holiday season which can be sooooo joyous at times, and it can also be a time of high-stress and anxiety as well.
The choice in which of these perspectives you decide to take is up to you. You could dwell on all the unrest and turmoil being shown to you on the news, tv, social, etc., and feel like you just wanna check out of this existence or run off and hide somewhere in the forest (not a bad idea btw).
Or you could choose to focus on the things you have control over despite the chaos in the external space. The first step to the latter is to check in with your energy.
Energy is everything!!
Your energy is the force that enables you to operate day-to-day life on this earth plane. Your energy precedes you, meaning people can feel your energy before you even speak or talk or engage in convos. Crazy huh?!
You know what I’m talking about though, right? For example, the way you can tell when someone is irritated or upset without them even saying or behaving as such. Or when you get a weird vibe when you first meet someone and it’s obvious that they’re not your people. And I don’t mean this in a judgemental way because that’s ego. What I mean is in an innate way you just feel like something is off. You can determine it based on the interaction between your energy and theirs, without a conversation exchange. This is energy, and it never lies.
Just as you have your own energy which is unique to you, other humans, pets, animals, media, food, drinks, pretty much anything you can think of has its own energy as well. Everything is energy. Granted the energy field of a living thing may be more powerful than of a table for example, nevertheless, energy exists in both.
Don’t take my word for it, my friend, remember back in the day when we took that class in high school called Physics?! You know, the one you took and if you were really into Science then you thoroughly enjoyed it and applied its concepts into everyday life. However, if Science wasn’t really your thang, then you probably struggled with it and hung in there just to scrape outta there with a C and were pretty impressed with yourself?
Yep, that’s the one. Physics is the branch of Science that deals with the structure of matter and how the fundamental constituents of the universe interact. Energy is the foundation of all matter. As a Science nerd, I’m sooooo disappointed that they don’t get into the works of Nicola Tesla in secondary school or college because I think that work is the missing link between traditional Physics and important topics labeled as Metaphysics or Philosophy such as vibration and frequency. Understanding these topics can have the biggest impact on your life, so the fact that they don’t teach us about this in school really unnerves me. But we’ll leave this discussion for another day.
Back to energy, understanding that everything is energy, we can then begin to see why being exposed to certain things has an impact on how we feel.
Energy Transfer Between People
Let’s say you’re feeling good today and you go into work and talk to your co-worker who tends to be a bit of a complainer, let’s call him Complainer Cliff. Cliff comes up to you to vent and tell you all about how shitty his day has been: he was late waking up, his kid threw a fit getting ready, he rushed out the door spilling their coffee on himself, and then got stuck in traffic on the drive to work.
You don’t really engage him, because you know he’s a bit of a complainer and you don’t want to get involved in this type of convo, however, your energy doesn’t get the memo. As you walk away, you feel a shift in your energy, you feel a little heavier and not as energized as you were before the convo with Complainer Cliff. Likewise, Cliff walks away and he’s feeling a shift too, he feels much lighter having vented to you. (Check out the picture above for a visual of this)
What has happened here is an energy transfer. Cliff has taken some of your light, happy, feel-good energy and you’ve taken some of Cliff’s heavy, upset, frantic energy.
Now don’t go getting mad at Cliff.
He’s not a horrible person who’s intentionally trying to bring you down. But that is what happened.
Energy Transfer Human vs Screens
One more example because we can’t possibly talk about energy in the 21st century without touching on the energetics of screen time and our human energy forcefield.
In this day and age where much of our interaction has become with screens versus actual people, if you’re not conscious of how screens are making you feel and interfering with your energy, you are in grave danger!
I am purposely being dramatic about this because it is that important. TV screens, phone screens, tablets, and any other device that you use to regularly consume content, are all living, breathing entities with some of the most powerful energy currently available. And unlike Complainer Cliff I mentioned earlier, screens and the content you consume from them have a very defined purpose. Their intention is to manipulate you and use your energy in some way shape or form.
Movies aim to provoke your emotions. TV ads have goals to convince you to buy things you don’t need for problems you don’t have. Social Media influencers and ads also target you to participate in consumerism. News capitalizes on keeping you hooked so they use fear-mongering tactics to infiltrate your mind and captivate your energy.
Now, none of these things are nefarious in and of themselves (well besides mainstream media, let’s be honest with ourselves), however, there’s definitely an energy transfer that happens when we engage with any of these things. The question we need to ask is, will this energy transfer be beneficial to you or not?!

The question you’re probably asking at this point is: how do we protect our energy?!
There are literally hundreds of ways to do this and I highly recommend exploring them so that you can learn which ways are the best for you. However, in this article, I’ll share with you a simple method I use, especially during the Holiday Season, when I may be going to events with many different people who may have varying emotions and energy levels.
How to Protect Your Energy (Holiday Edition)
INTENTION: Set the intention that you’re not open to any uninvited energy. Do this before stepping foot into any event.
Just the intention to do so is enough. This doesn’t mean you don’t want to talk to people or socialize, this is just letting your energetic body know that there may be energy in there that is not to your highest and greatest good, and you don’t wish to have an energetic transfer with that type of energy.
VISUALIZATION: Visualize yourself with a bright, golden bubble surrounding you. This is your protective bubble, your safe space. Throw all negativity outside of your bubble and watch it as it tries but cannot penetrate your protective space.
This visualization technique also comes in handy when you have any type of criticism or a hater throwing shade at you. Your safe bubble will become your new protective bestie. Sounds crazy, maybe, but once you realize its power, you’ll thank me 😉
ACTION: Know your triggers & what you’ll do when feeling triggered. This is your action plan and you must commit to it.
Holiday Edition Example: When Uncle Joe brings up politics, you’re going to walk outside or into another room and disengage.
Journal Prompt: What are your triggers? Do you even know what they are?
This is a simple question, yet if you’re not used to noticing your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, this question may seem elusive. I always encourage the women leaders I work with in my workshops and events to spend some time journaling and getting to know themselves a bit more. This way they know exactly what makes them feel good and not-so-good. This makes it that much easier to navigate this crazy game called life.
EXIT: Give yourself permission to exit any event where you feel your energy being drained.
If you’ve had enough, then leave. Even if it’s ahead of schedule or before they serve dessert. You don’t owe anyone an explanation or anything.
GRACE: Have grace and compassion for yourself and others.
This always applies, however, let’s increase our capacity for grace here in 2020 which has been a wild ride, to say the least.
Humans have become so used to allowing anyone and everyone to affect our mood, emotions, and energy. Many people are easily offended by literally everything. Being so volatile is a tough place to live because you’re at the mercy of your surroundings, and the external world is the one thing you have absolutely no control over.
Why relinquish your powers to it?!
Instead, if you can have grace and compassion and trust that everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they’ve been given, then you will make strides in protecting your energy because you will not allow the words or actions of others to negatively impact you.
My wish for you is that you try out this method for protecting your energy as well as explore some of the other options available to you. Then continue to use them beyond the holiday season.
When we learn how to protect our energy, we can then become more grounded and have the energy to work on ourselves and heal. Once we heal, we open up space and energy to help serve those around us. And this, my friend, is the reason why we are all here on this big, beautiful, blue planet.
Until next time…
Sending you peace and so much love,
Sara
